Hi, Sherryl,
It's ME!!! I have used stale beer in pie plates and saucers but did not
know about wood ash..  That's great!! I have been dumping wood ash and
ashes from my charcoal grill onto a bed for years and --- guess what it
is the one bed I do not have slugs...!
Hmmmmmmmmm...........................

Will pass this one along to my slug-laden friends....
