Hi, Margaret! My eyesight is horrible (can't be corrected completely), but
the truth is, I didn't see them because they shot up through a Hardy Ivy
overgrowth that covers the ground and is hanging in a huge clump going
through a lilac bush and overhanging the fence the bamboo grew next to. I
have been meaning to clear out that area, but find it easier to avoid the
task if I don't look at the mess! Also, I haven't been home for a couple
of days, and this is really growing quickly, so much so that it amazes me.
I'm going to save your letter, and if my neighbor wishes that I would take
that bamboo out, I'll cut it and send it your way when it blackens. In the
meantime, Harry, can you tell me how you transplant just part of the plant
- do I cut through the rhizome? Also some tips on what these need in the
way of fertilizer and watering (we are having a drought) would be
appreciated.
