The plant you are asking about is a ligularia, either l. 'Desdemona' or l.
'Dentata'
I think. They are great plants, you couldn't go wrong with them.

I am looking to find out the name of a shade plant found in Ken
Druse's The Natural Shade Garden (a wounderful reference book if you
have not seen it). On page 233 is a large yellow flowering plant that I
cannot identify. It seems to have dark green leaves with a ruby red
stalk (similar to a black eyed susan flower). Appears to be tall as
well. Any guesses? It may fill the bill for a tall yellow flowering
plant I am looking to put into my garden design.
