Re: [SG] Looking for a .....

Cyan

We are offering Dictamnus albus at our nursery this year. They are from
mixed seed batches so they may be either purple or white, but most likely
they will be purple. It has always been a difficult plant to find. I think
that must be because it they are slow to grow from seed, and it is not a
very profitable plant from a production nursery point of view. It is well
worth the wait, however, and if it is happy it will live for years and
years.

You didn't mention what type of Bleeding hearts you were growing. Are they
the big old fashioned Dicentra spectabilis that dies away in the summer, or
one of the D. formosa types that spread underground, but keeps it's foliage
all summer? One of the Hardy geraniums might work there. But you need to be
careful about what you choose. We have been really surprised at how large
some of them can get.

There are lots of new Heucheras and Tiarellas on the market that only have
about a 1' spread and will bloom for a great deal of the summer. I think
Tiarellas are going to become very popular. I have seen some of the new
ones coming along in the breeding process, and they are GOOD!

For fall bloom, try Tricyrtis.
