Hostas

I also lost two, both small TCs.  This is the first time that has happened,
but we had a very late, very mild, winter...I still had plants in bloom the
second week in December (usually all blossoms are gone by the first of
November). Astilbe budded for the second time and crocuses had re-emerged.
I'll bet some of the hostas that break ground early were gearing up, just
in time for the big freeze in January.  The smaller ones, without much
crown tissue, probably did not have the resources to make it through
dormancy after the energy used during warmer weather.
