Greetings: I don't know how monardo would fare in deep shade. Mine get
morning sun and partial shade in the afternoon.
Mine are 4 feet tall or more and growing. I planted three Cambridge Scarlet
two years ago; must be close to 50 or so plants now. They've spread fast!
Also have pink and purple varieties; they're at 3 feet or more and have
spread, though not as robust as Cambridge Scarlet.
Should be a good year for hummingbirds; they love monarda, especially the
red ones. Monarch and other butterflies also flock to monarda. My
hummingbird feeder is up but no takers yet. Also have other perennials that
attract butterflies and hummers and two baskets of streptocarpella Concord
Blue that attraced hummers.
Have a great long holiday weekend.
