Hi Nancy
It seems to depend on the variety.  Blue Stocking is vigorous in the shade
but doesn't bloom much.   My named Pink blooms but doesn't increase much and
my named red blooms beautifully, increases, but mildews, so am still
searching for the perfect Monardas for shade.
