Diann,
No, it's not a coldframe. I have wintered containers outside next to the
house on the east side. They have made it fine, so far. Sometimes I bury
clay pots (this year I have some dormant hosta bud cuttings and some blue
corydalis) in this nursery bed. We have a hosta man who has a giant 4' deep
coldframe and he puts a lot of things in it to winter. Also another friend
of mine does this, too. I would think it would work.
