If you have lovely, mealy, rock-free soil, by all means get one. If you
have soil like mine, loaded with every size and type rock known to modern
man, and laced with tree roots, forget it. I got one of those bits that
you attach to an electric drill a couple of years ago, was thoroughly
disappointed and got my money back on it. I have returned to the
combination of hand-held bulb planter and trowel. I drive the bulb planter
down as far as I can, then begin hacking with the trowel. For nothing else
on the face of the earth would I go to this much trouble than for spring
bulbs.
