Here are some shorter Amelanchier species native to regions east of the
Mississippi.

A. spicata  - 3-10 dm tall. Native to dry woods and rock banks
A. bartramiana -- up to 2 meters. Native to moist woodlands and barrens. New
foundland to Quebec
A. odovalis - 3-15dm tall, Native to dry open woods and pine barrens along the
East coast.
A. fernaldi - up to one meter. Native to limestone hilds and swamps and bogs
plus stream banks.
