Hello Clyde,
Nothing unusual about dying back and regrowth on Pulmonarias. During heat,
lack of rain and high humidity they will go into semi-dormancy. Looks like a mess
of black dead plant. I simply remove the unsightly mess so it does not hold back
the new growth and enjoy the new show until hard winter kills them back once more.
Not all Pulmonarias do this to the same extent, but they do have two active growth
cycles.. one in early spring and one in early fall. Like Hellebores.
