Gerry, make friends with someone who has three or four maple trees and no
garden area. Tell him/her you'll take the bagged leaves off his or her
hands and return the bags for re-use. Leave your telephone number. I have
people in the neighborhood who have called me each year for nearly 20 years
when their leaves are raked and bagged. I embarrassed my husband, too. I
also preferred to get leaves from people who were still raking and bagging,
because they'd help me load the bags into my little pickup.

What's even better is to make friends with lawn service guys who pick up
leaves they've mowed. Guys who do that in my neighborhood have brought me
pickups packed full of shredded leaves. They can drive into my garden area
and offload them. Then it's up to me to spread them in the garden. Margaret
