I, too, have wild hydrangea - two plants. They have been at my home since
before I moved there. I do absolutely nothing to/for them and they bloom
every year. If I have ever cut them back I can't remember; usually I just
leave the dead stalks and they rejuvenate in the spring. My larger plant,
about 4 feet tall, gets some midday sun but generally is in the shade.
