Did you have any problems with customs coming back (assuming Canada is as
strict as the U.S. about bringing in live plants)? Were you required just
to present for inspection or did you have to obtain some kind of
certification as a collector bwefore you went?

On our last two trips to Hawai'i I brought back several native impatiens
cuttings with the blessing of the USDA. Have just assumed bringing things
from Europe would be more difficult, bare-root or not, because of their
current sensitivity to invasive species.
