Re: Fall Planting

Bobbie here in Gloucester, Ma. zone 6.5

It is interesting to see that someone else has a last frost expected date of
Oct 20. The coast allow that for my gardens. All around here (even 10
miles) have had a frost already. The Topsfield Fair, the oldest agricultural
fair in the country, is going on right now, and last Fri, a volunteer day, I
helped those that bring in flowers to be judged, shown, during the fair.
The dates are always arranged for a 10 day fair ending on Columbus Day
Weekend. There is always an iffy chance of those bringing in dahlias,
glads, annuals, etc for the fair. And it all depends on where one lives.
This year, we had a bad frost two days before and several growers picked
flowers two days early in bud, to display at the fair!

Back to the topic.

I believe perennials do fine in our late falls getting planted. Many of the
underground work goes on during the late fall, early springs. Like grass.

I have several gardens left to install, and many daylilies still to divide
and line out for installations next spring. Wonderful time of year!
