Well, Pottsey, you've gotten some good suggestions. There are actually a
lot of grasses, sedges, rushes and bamboos (all "grasses") that will do
quite well in varying amounts of shade, depending on where you garden.
If you will pardon the crass self-advertisement, last spring I did a series
of 10 articles on Ornamental Grasses for Shade. Think I found just about
all of them that can be classified that way. I even searched for and
listed online nurseries that carried them and linked the lists to the
pages. Well, I am pretty sure some of those links are dead...need to go
see about them, just haven't had time... but they do give you an idea of
what's out there in the trade. If you're interested, here's the URL to the
