Re: [SG] Geranium Cuttings

Hi all,

Since I'm quite far behind in my mail...I'm just now responding to this and I
hope someone still has some unfrozen geraniums left.

...here is what I found about propagating geraniums from cuttings, taken from
my notes from a propagation class I attended a few years back ...it was taught
by John H. Nipp, a longtime master gardener here.

"Drying Cuts - Plants such as geraniums, rubber plant, weeping fig, succulents
and cacti, should be left to air-dry untill the cut surface is callused over
(several hours to several days). This will speed rooting and help prevent the
entrance of disease."

(the teacher said 1 1/2 days for geraniums!!!)

Group Cuttings - Cuttings seem to do better when they are grown in like
groups, perhaps because of their sharing of hormones and antibiotics.

(John added that several geranium cuttings in one pot will root much faster
than 1 cutting in a pot)
