Here are some I grow in the kind of shade you describe:
Fallopia japonica 'Variegatus'; Kerria; dwarf variegated hemlocks;persicarias.
In shady conditions you might try some of the varieties of Pennisetum and or
variegated species and varieties of Miscanthus. (These might not grow or if
they do, might be too tall for you requirements.)
