Yes, I think my hardy begonia is Begonia grandis. It's about a foot
and a half tall and has pink flowers. It's the only bloom in the fern and
rhododendron bed by now... but there's lots of color from the mums that are
coming on like gangbusters and the annuals that are still
lovely--especially the red tubes of the pineapple sage, some very bright
dwarf snaps, red-orange and yellow blooms on the bloodflower (which the
monarchs love), multicolor gazanias still going strong, very orange
California poppies in the scree beds, magenta blooms on the hanging
geranium, and New Guinea impatiens in many shades of red and pink.
This year's unusual fall dryness and late frost date (not yet) have
meant that we have fall color on the trees all over town while the areas of
annuals are still going, so the park display beds are especially nice with
the colored tree backgrounds.
In my garden, I have some perennials still blooming too--the purple
and white spotted tricyrtis, some pink English roses and mini-roses, nice
blues on the dwarf anchusa and the cerastostigma plumbagnoides (leadwort?),
English lavender, a few brilliant magenta Lychnis coronaria remaining, still
sweet smelling white Daphne blooms, althea zebrina (seeded all over the
gravel walks), and tall pink Japanese anemones.
