Anybody have a Latin dictionary handy? I'm wondering what plantaginea

the root word, appearing as plaintain ( an unpleasant lawn and driveway week

Plantago refers to a genus. I'd rather think that the name is derived from
the plantain family---Plantaginacae==Plantain Family. The sedges are not
members of the genus Plantago but are a genus.
