Well, here in zone 5b, my Sweet Autumn-don't know that I'd call it a weed,
but if you know anyone who has one, they surely would have babies growing at
its feet. How wonderfully vigorous and fragrant it is! Vigorous!! And you
do need a large space for it to grow-it spreads out quickly. I only regret
planting mine on the same fence as a Nelly Moser and a Niobe, which are both
hard pressed to keep their selves in the sun. On another hand, my SA is
prone to wilt. All in all, I'd plant it again.
It's in bloom right now.

Bobbi,
I have never seen a seedling in zone 4. In fact, in this colder zone it is
very hard to establish this clematis. A small one growing here is just now
forming flower buds and will probably be killed off by a frost before it
blooms. Just a zone or two warmer than us will grow many things that we
find
marginal.
