Yes, it is an imported earth worm that has been used for fishing.

The problem has more to do with numbers, the nonnative forms have much higher
populations and consume all the forest litter, This forest litter is needed
for seed germination and seedling growth.  Without the litter the seedlings
dry out before they can establish them selves.

The litter also acts as a sponge holding water and nutrients near the
surface, were most tree roots are.
