I have Eupatorium 'Gateway' (Joe pye weed is the common name I hope) that is
in full sun. It flowered at least 6 weeks ago and the flowers are brown now.
(I'm in Delaware, zone 7)
I have a question about 'Gateway'. It grows upright but while flowering it
tends to lay over some and takes up a lot of garden room. Would cutting the
plant back earlier in the season reduce this tendency? Or is this a bad
practice? I hope staking is not needed.
I want to get the cultivar 'Chocolate'. I've got some of the local native
Joe pye weed in my garden also. It grows a lot of places in this area in
ditches and fields that are low and wet. Some of these areas are under water
during wet times.
I'm getting quite a few volunteer seedlings this year.
