Yes, you mention some major water hogs! I was hoping the Eupatorium were
wilting all the time because they were just planted....

sun/shade
is down to the color of the leaves. Mine (they're new this year) get
morning sun--maybe 2 hours--and a fairly bright shade but no sun for much
of
the rest of the day. They are starting to flower, but the leaf color is
more green than chocolate. The tag says part shade.

I have some plants in light shade, they are 4 feet tall and have good color.
Large plants too.
I also have some plants in full sun-the color is very dark and they are 3.5
feet tall-but when I put them in this June they were extremely small.
>From my experience in our state-Minnesota - Chocolate grows best in light
shade, but really has nice dark foliage in full sun. But I also give in
plenty of water and the soil is almost perfect.
The normal species is just starting to bloom in the woods-but my cultivated
forms (Chocolate) is still a week or so away from blooming.
I have many in one gallon pots too-and this plant likes to drink water.
Next
year all the ASTILBE and the 'Chocolate' and the Ligulareia are going to be
kept in the same spot in the growing area, so I can keep them damp all the
time.
