If you divide primula in the spring in colder gardens you will have no
flowers or so-so flowers. You can leave them alone to bloom and then divide.
You can put the divisions into pots in a shady area until they are recovered
and plant then. I know this is a bunch of work but we have such a short
season. When you think about dividing something that is not immortal such as
hosta, you usually lose a flowering season. Potted divisions can be cared
for easily and will get you more vigorous plants when you are ready to put
them into the garden.
We have had a change in the long August heat spell. I suspect there will be
an early frost this year so we are now bringing in plants that winter indoors
and looking at fall arriving. It seems it was just spring..................
