I feel that Lamium is worthless as a groundcover or even just a flower bed
plant because even a healthy clump of it will not be vigorous enough to
smother weeds. In my yard, large patches of Lamium 'White Nancy' and L.
'Beacon Silver' thrive in a bed that gets full sun in midsummer and full
shade the rest of the year (it's along the north side of the house). Both
were here when we moved in, obviously planted years ago.
Unfortunately, the planting is infested with nasty grass-type weeds like
quackgrass and nutsedge which ruin its appearance, and as I try to weed
out the grasses it is hard not to kill the lamium as well. It seems to
resent any type of disturbance.
