Hi Anelle--
I finally resorted to lining beds with rabbit wire cloth to prevent moles
from eating everything. Not worth it for everything, but well worth it for
valuable plants and bulbs.
I garden in the Coast Range, and top dress with compost each year,
basically to build up organic matter and nutients. Don't fertilize much
otherwise.
