Hello friends,
In talking so much about those who like to make things, and the
cement walk ideas (with other things added) I have a project that I
have been wanting to do since I saw them. I wonder if any of you
know about them or have tried them.
I go to a wholesale trade market in Boston in the wintertime. There
are these intriquing 'Old Father Wind' figures cast in cement /
aggregate mixed with other stones (?). They each have a three
dimensional look and would be great as stone wall inserts. Very
heavy. One would do for an accent in the garden.
Each is unique for size and his looks. Very hairy and well bearded.
Heavy eyebrows. Very expensive - 300 and more for larger ones.
So I have been interested in making them freehand. But I have never
worked in cement. Since these are several faces, but cast in cement,
I was wondering if it would be possible to make them for real in sand.
I live on the coastline. Reverse sand molds with cement poured
into them????? Cement poured into some container and as it hardens,
doing the sculpting? Cement colored to look aged? I would really
love to explore the idea, but for some reason just picture a heavy
cement blob in front of me, hardening, and there forever!!!!
Heck, I can sew, lay tile, garden, cook, make music, etc, so thinking
maybe I can get creative with these....
Any ideas!!!!!
