Dean Dan,

If your horsetail is our equisetum arvense, you might want to think about
keeping that plant in you cultivated area. Ours is leafless with thread-like
whorls around the stalk. It becomes deeply rooted, able to thrive in waste
places.

Could your more southern location in any way inhibit this plant? Horsetail
grows sun or shade and is capable of ruining a cultivated area for any other
plants. There are relatives, other species sold for water and bog gardens.
This plant is able to surface our paths in the veg frames (only weed that can)
which are paved between frames with heavy cardboard and about 6 inches of
coarse wood chips.

I really hate this plant.
