Equisitum is the genus name. By the way, Diane Heilenman, garden editor of
the Louisville Courier Journal, says that ground or chopped up horsetails
make a good mulch that deters slugs. (The plants contain a silicon
substance that gives them their other common name, Scouring Rush.) She
also says it is so invasive it should never be planted in a garden, except
in a pot.
