Hello Pottsey,
Wayside is a good company for the beginning gardener. They offer all kinds
of guarantees and that wonderful color catalog. I think I read somewhere
that they mail out over a million of those each year. A Million with an M.
There is a color photo of almost every plant they sell and a descriptive
paragraph or three with cultural hints and tips. One of the best in the
business. They also stand behind their plants and will send you another one
if you kill the first. Of course this is all very expensive and someone
must pay for it. Namely anyone who orders. The experienced gardeners
support the novice.
I have not done a formal survey of this, but I do find their claims to
excusive plants to be exaggerated. I find plants they claim to be the Only
one carrying in other catalogs.
Personal experience.... I find their plants shipped to be on the small
side for the expense. If they have something I can not find elsewhere I do
order from them with confidence. I also feel they are not keeping a close
enough eye on the quality produced by their growers. They have simply
gotten too big to keep a good eye on it all.
My 2.5 cents worth.......
