If described as "black" and most you've seen aren't close, think 40 chrom
Sino-Sibs.
They aren't the most common things and the only one I've ever heard
described as black is I. chrysographes.
Only photo I could find of one was in the T&M catalog so popped a scan of
it up at http://www.povn.com/rock/a_chrys.html. This one doesn't look like
it has any kind of signal but it's not uncommon for some of them to show a
small gold signal on the falls.
If this doesn't look close to what you have, start checking the forms of
other iris species. A number of species include cvs that come close to
black and I've had people send me Siberians that turned out to be anything
but! :)

I received a Siberian Iris in a trade. The sender said the Siberian iris
