I have just received a Catalog from Song Sparrow
Perennial Farm, put out by Roy G. Klehm of 13101 East
Rye Road, Avalon, Wisconsin 53505. E-Mail:
sparrow@JVLNET.com.
They have a nice selection of Currier McEwen's
Siberians, with good pictures. That's the good news.
They also list a siberian they call SASSY KOCHINA,
showing it as a McEwen introduction, listing it
as "round, compact and flaring 3" flowers have white
standards with light yellow ribs and creamy white falls
with crimped yellow edges and veins. The signals have
areas of rich yellow." Sounds like the description of
SASSY KOOMA", however the photograph is of a blue violet
siberian with a white edge on falls, lavender standards
and style arms.
Also listed are two siberians originated by Roy G.
Klehm, both unregistered names: "Lavender Lady",
and "Velvet Robe". If you plan on entering in Iris
Shows, beware that these are unregistered varieties, and
will be disqualified by AIS Judges.
If you, as I, think catalog developers should stick to
AIS approved names, please drop Roy G. Klehm an E-Mail
telling him so!
Howard Brookins in snowy Wisconsin, where the siberians
are still sleeping!
