Of course impossible to know for sure. We send explicit directions with each
shipment hoping that the people try their best.
Most of these gardeners are avid gardeners, some belong to this Robin, I
don't want to name names. I thought I would just bring it into the open for
discussion.
I still stick to my guns and say that many plants are not tested as they
should be and I think it is becoming more prevalent. Reasons for this are:
1. Pressures to introduce plants quicker, (big profit side here) as we all
know, new intros can be very expensive.
2. Pressures to stay ahead of competition by producing something newer and
different, even if it does not grow well.
3. Status, and politics. (you can't get away from that)
As a grower I can not keep propagating and selling plants that keep coming
back with negative reports. I track complaints and it is almost always the
same plants.
I also wonder how some plants ever won a Morgan Award? I disagree with
giving a top award to a plant that does not fufill all levels of garden
worthiness. If it is radical and a break-through Siberian but deficient in
other areas, there should be a separate award for that category and a
mandate to rate them that way.
I am not downplaying all newer Siberians, there are many fine ones and some
older ones that are not so good. Usually though, if they are older and not
so good they are gone - they don't stand the test of time.
Now I will sit back and take the fallout, perhaps I am too forthright, but I
do suspect there are others out there that have questions and comments.
My days are limited from here on so I just had to stir up the pot a little
;), before my time is taken.
