Trial Gardens

I'm reluctant to be a wet blanket on any idea that raises as much enthusiasm
as the recent discussion of volunteers to test new siberians, but... Last
fall there was a related discussion about test gardens and I recall Bob
Hollingworth explaining several issues.

A major problem concerned available stock. A hybridizer is trying to build
sufficient stock for introduction. S/he receives many requests for guest
irises for national/regional conventions, garden tours, etc. There often
just aren't enough plants to go around. I'm not a hybridizer, so I don't
know why I'm getting into this discussion, but if you'd like to read his
sibrob email, look it up in archives.
