Re: Fertilizing Sibs

Hi Linda, and robins,
The answer to fertilizing can be long or short.
One should first get a soil test and wait for results. Year after year of
fertilizing plants can result in toxic levels of P and K, but seldom Nitrogen,
which is mobile and transitory.
I liew of a soil test, I feel the best and safest method is to use an organic
fertilizer, or better yet, a mixture of aged manure and compost.
I have thousands of different plants under my care, and about 100 SI's. Best for
them, I think is Hollytone, Plantone, or bagged composted leaf./manure. The added
benefits of these types of fertilzers are that they build the soil fertility and
organic material levels much better than chemical fertilizers. In addition, I
have never burned SI's with organic fertilizers.
Hollytone is a mixture of mostly natural fertilizer material, with added
chemical K.
 It is an acidic mix.
Plantone is about the same, but not acidic and has no chemical fertilizers.
Bagged composted products are generally high in organics and low in Nitrogen.
Does anyone else have any comments? Jim Murphy zone 6/7 in the
