Best soil for Siberians?? Newbie

Hi,

I just got fifty Siberian iris roots (variety unknown)but I'm told
they are slender purple irises with yellow throats, and she said they
were Siberian. I saw in one of my gardening books that these irises
like moist, even soggy soil. So, I have an area on one side of my
home that is constantly wet. Only when we haven't had rain for weeks
does it completely dry out. I planted them there, but now I realize
the soil is mostly clay. I only planted them about 2 inches down and
lightly covered them with soil (mud). Will these survive or should I
have the area reworked with better soil?

Help!!!

Kim
