Re: shade tolerant siberians

I know what you're talking about Ken. I have a few that only get about 3
hours of sun a day, if that, in summer, being under the combined shade of a
willow and tall blue spruce. Some seem to do ok, though with somewhat fewer
flowers. It seems that my 'Shall We Dance' didn't like it as much, so I
moved it into the sun, where it responded quickly. 'Sea Shadows' has been a
little sparse in blooming. 'White Swirl' with the least sun of all does the
best of the group, with the only problem being stems that are a little weak
and can be broken down with a windy day or heavy rain. 'Super Ego' bloomed
fairly well there too. I might finish up by saying that--despite these
drawbacks-- seeing a flock of 'White Swirl' standing out in a shady corner
amongst dark foliage of other plants, during the shade in the morning
light-- can be very beautiful. Another advantage is that I don't need to
water them quite as much as the sunny ones.
