RE: Siberians in water gardens

Bill;
Although, I do not have siberians growing in a water pond, however, a couple of years ago I came up with the idea of a waterless pond. I am advising you to have a little imagination here...My idea was to create an area that looks like a pond without actually any water. The waterless pond has a half circle backdrop of limestone with siberians in front of the stone. The water in the waterless pond is created by a variety of blue pansies.  I have added on top of the soil a layer of course sand, to appear as a sandy bottom as looking through the water of pansies. This sand helps to hold in the moisture that the siberians do love, without becoming too wet. I have added a geranium called Splish Splash just for fun. I have a little hippo  statue which looks half submerged, like he is soaking in the water, and also acts as a fertilizing agent. I could go on, but you get the idea. I really enjoy the effect of the waterless pond without the water, and others do too.
The s. iris I used were, Shirley Pope, and Spring Brook.
Just thought I'd share.

Subject: [sibrob] Siberians in water gardens

Hello everyone,

I have recently read a couple books saying Siberians are good water garden plants. Anyone using them in water gardens?
