I have been doing lots of research in what interests
gardeners in Iris and what types of iris they are
interested in. I believe I have shared with many
people that my research shows that people searching
the internet seem to be looking for information on
Siberian Irises ten to a hundred times more often than
people looking for information on Tall-bearded Iris.
The difference is enormous. At public Iris sales the
experience is the same. Some of this has to do with
many people thinking they know TBs but are less
familiar with Siberians. Whatever the cause it can be
said that Siberian Iris are a hot topic among todays
gardening public. There are many ways the Siberian
section of AIS can take advantage of this and I will
do whatever I can, that can help to bring members to
both groups. AIS brings members to the Siberian
section and the Siberian section can bring members to
AIS. At present there are great opportunities for us
to work together and achieve a greater, larger, Iris
society. But we need ideas, and efforts to carry them
out. I would suggest that coordinated efforts could
reap great rewards.
