New To Group: My somewhat brief bio

Tonight I joined the Siberian Iris Robin. My name is Bobby Baxter from Wake Forest, North Carolina. Glen Grigg in Raleigh is responsible for getting me turned on to the irises. He also has some beautiful Siberians that make fantastic displays in his garden. This past summer I also visited and filmed Roy Epperson's garden where I became exposed to a greater variety and diversity in the Siberians.

Along with my wife and two sons, I am converting a collection of daylilies into a real garden by adding all kinds of new plant material. Adding irises has taken on a bigger role than simple filler material and we now grow approximately 70 different irises but are truly lacking in the Siberians. This should change this coming season, however, as we discover the beauties that are out there.

We are very active in the Daylily Society, and my wife Gretchen, is the International Registrar for the genus Hemerocallis. We enjoy hybridizing the daylilies and I travel extensively each year to gardens all around the Country. I produce garden videos and in 2002 made eight different 2-hour videos, one which predominately featured irises. My garden video website is http://daylily.net/gardenvideos.

My real job is as a self-employed custom residential painter, however, starting today I am taking the next three to four months off to dedicate myself to full time garden web design. Hence the reason I am able to join SibRob tonight because I will have much more computer time available over the next several months. The web design business has blossomed from my interest in gardening and the two most recent sites I have developed are for Daylily World at http://daylilyworld.com and Thoroughbred Daylilies at http://johnricedaylilies.com. Even though these sites are not Siberian irises, you will see some truly remarkable and beautiful flowers if you have the opportunity to click your way there.

Our garden is called Happy Moose Daylily Garden but even though we grow over 700 daylily cultivars, we do not sell flowers commercially. Or perhaps I should say the only flowers I sell are my very few own introductions. As the irises start increasing perhaps one day I will have to change the name to Happy Moose Gardens since it will be more like a "real" garden. Our goal over the next few years is to create a relaxing "display" garden for friends, family, and visitors to enjoy and discover the beauty of gardening.

I imagine that I will be more of a group reader than writer, especially during the beginning as I have much to discover about the Siberians.

Blessing to everyone during this Holy of seasons.

Bobby
