Re: [Tissue Culture]

Re tissue culture of siberians, I've had a couple of tries at this (with help
from some experts at Purdue and Michigan State University). It will take a
fair amount of time to work out the ideal conditions. Several variables all
have to be optimized at once, and the only way to do this is to try lots of
different combinations. I have regenerated a couple of plants but don't have
the process under control yet. It's on my list as a project after I retire!
Martin Meyer (ex-University of Illinois) worked out a method that was
successful for many (but not all) Siberians but was cagy about revealing all
the details. He published a method for tall beardeds but Siberians are
different. If anyone bought a start of Pas-de-Deux from us about 5 years ago,
it was a plant grown from tissue culture starts that Martin gave us. Good luck
if you want to get going on this, Bill. Maybe you will get lucky early.
Persistence pays. I can tell you some things that don't work. Bob

Hello everyone!

In TSI (the book) Dr. Ewen describes cloning plants from a young flower
stem. Has anyone on the list tried
this method or know if anyone who has tried it recently, especially with
Siberians? I have found through the internet a company which promotes a
home culture kit for roughly $80.00. I thought I'd try and practice
maintaining sterile growth medium and then try the process with Siberians.
Practise some of the microbiology I took in college.
