Re: Re: TETRAPLOIDS - DIPLOIDS

As Currier McEwen says on p 12 in 'The Siberian Iris', "the genetic
determinants of every living thing, are contained in the cells in microscopic
bodies called chromosomes. Every living organism has a characteristic # of
chromosomes." The diploids, the hanging falls fluttering butterflies above
the foliage have 28 chromosomes. The tetraploids are doubled thus having 56.
This can occur in nature or as in the case of siberians was originally
induced by treatment with colchicine, a drug derived from the fall crocus.
This has been done in Hemerocalis and siberians. Anna Mae Miller
