Jeff Dunlop a hybridizer living in Windham, Maine has a unique approach to
cutting back his siberians.
He waits for a perfect day very early in the spring. He prefers a day with
no wind and some snow on the ground. He then goes through his beds with a
flame torch burning the dry, dead foliage of each clump. He swears by it
for borer control. He sprays later in the season for bud fly.
