(I just sent this to the IrisEditors mailing list but I thought
I would try to elicit comments on this issue)
Hi all,
There will not be an official 2002 Pop. Poll in TSI this issue.
*We will have an article with some of the wonderful comments re
Siberians in various places which the readership feels is more
valuable in growing Siberians..at least that is what I think.
(always dangerous to say that)
The Pop. Poll compiler felt that the responses were not
sufficient for a valid poll and I readily agreed. Some might
think we had enough but we didn't. What percentage of the
membership constitutes a valid pop.poll? Does it matter how many
reply?
The Society for Siberian Irises does not use a pre-printed
ballot that can easily be checked-marked...only one person in
2001 wrote to me saying she preferred it. However, she did vote
her ballot anyway. Hmmm.
The common wisdom (did not use conventional wisdom) is that by
selecting the irises that appearĘ on the ballot 'someone' is
almost guaranteeing what the 'winners' will be. Look at the AIS
TB ballot (Symposium) and the dearth of responses from thousands
of members and even less write-ins. Any surprises year after
year..of course, that can also be said for the SSI ballot. :-)
Any thoughts or is this a done deal in your Pubs.?
