Re: Tetra Sibtosa's

From: Jpwflowers@aol.com

Tomas Tamberg has done some amazing work in the area of sibtosas. He took
seedlings from crosses of diploid siberians by diploid setosas (which would
be sterile) and converted them to tetraploidy by using colchicine. This
produces Tetra Sibtosas which are fertile not only with other Tetra Sibtosas,
but also with Tetraploid Siberians (56ch.). In writing he has also suggested
that the same result can be obtained by converting setosas to tetraploidy and
then crossing them with tetraploid siberians.

In 1993 at the first Siberian Convention in Michigan, Tamberg showed slides
and explained his work to use tetraploidy to increase the fertility of wide
interspecies crosses. He is working with all kinds of beardless irises in
this regard including 40 (80)ch. siberians, cal-sibs, versicolors (which are
natural polyploids), lactea, laevigata, etc.
