Re: More information about Yahoogroups

John Jones is saying much the same thing over on iris-talk. The problem
is...the procedures don't work as advertised for some of us.

You see...we've been using the mailist since the beginning without
signing up for any passwords or any of the other embellishments from
One-list, e-Groups, or Yahoo! Last night I tried just as an experiment
to see the involuntary survey for personal information being discussed
with concern on iris-talk. That didn't work. The conversion wizard
cryptically announced that my e-mail address wasn't found...and returned
me right back to the conversion wizard for a repeat of the same sad
routine. Oh well.

It appears likely that the maillist system is not going to allow me to
unsubscribe, subscribe, or do anything else to modify the current
subscription. Now, that's just a guess at this point, of course. It
seems the only way I can really put the system to the test is by
attempting to unsubscribe. Since, I don't really want to do so at this
time, I can only wonder what the real facts may be. In any case, the
yahoos and/or eGroupies appear to be requiring us to take out passwords
and fill out questionaires in order to manage our subscription to the
maillist.

One thing is for sure, however. We don't do passwords, PINs, or online
personal questionaires except when we absolutely must <smile>. We
already have to use a binder to track dozens of passwords and PINs for
essential services in our business and professions. If we accepted
passwords and PINs for the non-essential services, our binder would have
to track them in the hundreds. Personal questionaires are simply out of
the question.

So, if it should become necessary to do so in order to manage this
avocational maillist subscription, we'll have to regretfully ask to be
unsubscribed, since we may not have the required access to do so
ourselves.

Can we or can we not use the old style commands for maillists? Can we
send an <unsubscribe> command to what e-mail address?

How about finding a friendlier and non-commercial host for the sibrob
and iris-talk?
