I am hearing you. At this juncture, I have taken a wait and see (and
hope) stance. I am writing this from the Yahoogroups site inside our
Sibrob pages since my damnable operamail.com is down....
I don't think there could have been any way to access the web pages
even on One-list without a password of your own choosing. When one
subscribed to the various email lists it was necessary. There is no
other way to subscribe without a password.
It is true that to access the Yahoogroups site now, one needs a Yahoo
ID with that comes a registration for Yahoo with the usual form and
questions. I wish it wasn't necessary but that is where we are. I am
still searching for other vehicles BUT the three others in the
running
all have their own problems...some cost $$$$$ which I frankly abhor
and can't afford. One other is down half the time (I subscribed to a
number of lists and it was very iffy). Topica is definitely out. Hort
net was a possibility but I found some problems that I choose not to
go into here...we all like having photos in the Sibrob, etc.
This massive mail list site (Yahoogroups) is not perfect but it is
powerful and flanked by knowledgeable people experienced in running
hundreds of thousands of mail lists and being able to deliver and
some
of the egroups personnel and even some of the one-list people are
part
of the Yahoogroups staff. I deal only with Brandon Long from eGroups
finding the Yahoo people during the merger discussions not as
helpful.
I am not a fan of Yahoo but have had an address there for years and
each of my family has accounts there so I found the conversion-merge
a
15 second procedure. Having a web mail account does also have
advantages. Any place where there is an online connection, you can
read your mail. I did that at one of the conventions reading
iris-talk
and sibrob mail in Oklahoma.
It is a sad fact but anything you write on the internet is stored
somewhere and accessible. I did a search on Google with just my name
and found things that surprised me like one little comment that I
made
years ago popped up re dogs. There was more re iris. So we broadcast
to the world, unfortunately.
I will be in touch with John Jones and send him a copy of your post.

Ellen Gallagher (who is in the process of changing her Sibrob address
and won't clog up your e
