Hello Sergey and all,
Someone who is far better at this than I am can answer
these questions so this is 'not' an answer. :-)
I have questions about many irises that are registered
in the SPEC and SPEC-X classes. For instance, I love
little SUSLIK (MDB and I. pumila). I asked and was
told that the registrant could decide what class to
register it in. In this case SUSLIK was grown from
SIGNA seed so I guess it was a no-brainer (except for
me who was touting it to my friends as an MDB). I sent
some of its self-seeds back to SIGNA a few years back
and the receipient of that seed told me he
successfully grew in California to use in, of course,
MDB breeding.
I realize that I. pumila and the subseries
Chrysographes are species or darn near close to it
more than most 28-chrom. garden Siberians.
*If we take this to its zenith, wouldn't every iris
cultivar fall into SPEC-X or even SPEC (less often)
classes? Just pondering not offering any opinion...
Ellen
