Hello everyone!
My winter reading has left me with a number of questions, thematically
surrounding plant exploration and Iris of China. The fall SIGNA newsletter
containing information about I. henryi and a new Chinensis species, the arrival of the
SIGNA seed list, reading the IRIS of CHINA by Waddick and Zhao, also Alice
Coat's THE PLANT HUNTERS and accounts by plant hunters themselves has left me
with the impression that a great deal of collecting or rediscovery remains to be
done.
Is there time and interest to mount China Iris Project II? Should this be
left to Chineses botanists funded by American contributions? In IRIS of CHINA I
read acknowledgments to a number of iris clubs and groups who contributed funds
to the last endeavor.
Personally I am keen to see if I. phragmitetorum, I. sanguinea var.
yixingensis, or I. bulleyana var. alba can be rediscovered, collected and added to our
gardens.
Bill
